An orange tabby wandered into a family’s yard, hoping for just a bite to eat. After going from one doorstep to another, he had finally stumbled upon the right one.

Arianne and John, known in their neighborhood for caring deeply about community cats, often leave food out for any strays in need. That day, the hungry tabby cautiously crept onto their porch and devoured the meal like he hadn’t eaten in days.

But the moment he spotted the family watching him, he panicked and darted back into the shadows.

Hoping he’d come back, the couple kept leaving out fresh food and water each day. He started coming closer for treats and eventually allowed them to pet him. Then came a rainy evening that changed everything.

The tabby appeared on the porch, drenched from the storm. When the family opened the door, he didn’t hesitate—he walked right in. As the door closed behind him, so did the chapter of his life on the streets. They gently dried him off and set up a warm, cozy spot just for him.

Now safe indoors, the cat—whom they named Julep—quickly warmed up to his rescuers and even let them carry him in their arms.

Up close, they noticed the signs of his tough life: scars on his face, ears, and neck from battles on the streets. Wanting to give him the best chance at a new beginning, the family reached out to their local rescue for help.

Chatons Orphelins Montréal welcomed Julep with open arms and made sure he got the medical care he needed. The vet estimated he was around four years old, but you’d never guess it—he had the playful energy, curiosity, and charm of a kitten.

“He’s very chatty,” they shared. “If you talk to him, he always talks back.”

Julep greets his foster mom with a chorus of purrs and little chirps, happily rolling onto his back the moment she walks into the room.

“He climbs into our laps and snuggles into our hands for pets, purring and cooing the entire time,” they said. “He’s like a big teddy bear—he flops right over when he’s feeling happy.”

Julep loves being near his humans and doesn’t believe in closed doors—if you’re in a room, he wants to be there too. He’s full of energy, endlessly chatty, and always ready to play—especially when the feather toy makes an appearance.

What began as a simple search for a meal turned into a beautiful second chance at life.

Now, Julep is thriving in a loving foster home where he’s cherished, spoiled, and never without company.

These days, you’ll often find him perched on a bookshelf or lounging on the cat tree, keeping a watchful eye on his humans—always ready to leap into a playful moment or melt into their arms for snuggles.
